Quite The Day ...

Monday ...  Aug. 6, 2012

Katie and the grandchildren arrived around 4:30 pm ...
the kids were ready to jump in the pool ...
after travelling ...

Craig was being a tease ...
every time I went to take a picture of him ...
he would dive under the water ...
but I managed to catch him on his way back up out of the water ...

James is such a character ...
not stop giggler ... unless his brother is pestering him ...

Ella was being careful ...
staying close to the edge ...
for the first little bit ...
then it wasn't long before she ventured out ...
swimming around the pool ...

We could see that a storm was brewing ...
clouds were moving in and were quite dark ...
after hearing thunder ...
and seeing some lightning it was time to get out ...
We managed to have a BBQ ...
and enjoy our dinner ... !!!!

AND THEN THE CLOUDS BURST OPEN ...
HARD RAIN ... HAIL ... WIND ...
WHAT A STORM ... !!!!
ROAD BEING ERODED ... BRANCHES BREAKING ... BUSHES BEATEN DOWN ...
ANKLE DEEP PUDDLES ...
EAVE CAPS BEING BLOWN OFF FROM THE WATER PRESSURE ...
AND THEN THE LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER ...
WAS ONLY MOMENTS BEFORE THE POWER WENT OUT ...

After the storm ended ...
the kids were so excited to go outside to slip and slide ...
and play with the balls of hail ...
they first went out in just their underwear ... but was too cold for them ...
and then they came in to get their PJ's on ...
While it was still light out ... I prepared for the power outage ...
gathering extension cords and setting up the generator ...
Once it was dark ... the kids took the lanterns to play in the basement ...
I told them it's just like camping ...
but only inside the house ...
everyone had a lantern or flashlight ... to find their way around ...
Katie made some nachos and cheese ...which was heated in the propane oven ...
some chocolate chip cookies ... eating ... drinking ...
and playing cards ... "Go Fish" ...
until it was time for bed ...

I went out at 11:00pm  to go start the generator ...
when all of a sudden the lights came on ...

No need for the generator this time ... !!!
